Do you need more seating for your home? Do you want to add more furnishings for your interior or exterior living spaces? You can try adding a couple of DIY benches! This a simple project that you can finish in one afternoon. Once you’re done with that, you can start using it right away for a campfire in your backyard!

Planning and Needed Supplies

Like any successful project, start with a good plan. Determine how many people you want the bench to accommodate and get the right measurements. Once you figure that out, time to get your planks and other supplies from your local hardware store. Remember the store might not have the size of planks you’re going to need which is why the right tools are going to be needed.

From the toolbox, get your diamond blade saw, power drill, screws, wood glue, and sandpaper ready for use. If you want to seal or color the wood, you should grab some paint and polyurethane.

Prepare for Assembly

Once you have all the tools and materials, it’s time to begin assembly. Cut the wood with your power saw to your desired specifications. There should be one long piece that will be the seat part, another long piece that will act as the support, and two shorter parts for the legs.

Now that you have your pieces ready, connect one leg to of the support pieces. So you can do this right, you can mark both sides of the support with a pencil. Do this again with the other leg. Once both legs are attached to the support, it’s time for the next step.

Now that the legs and support are in secured, you can place the seat piece. Glue it in place and wait for it to dry.

Sand the bench so that all sections so they’re nice and smooth before you apply staining or polyurethane. Once everything is smoothened, apply the paint or polyurethane.

Try Out Your New Bench

Enjoy your new bench! Try it outdoors or indoors with friends. Another use for your new piece of furniture is a stand for your potted plants. Go ahead!
