This adapter is well made, and more " true" than some of the others out there Review by

This adapter is well made, and more " true" than some of the others out there. I would give it 5 stars, except it has a major issue for U.S.A. users. The hole for pilot bit is just undersize for 3/8 inch pilot bits like are sold everywhere in " big box " home centers. The pilot hole seems to be a metric or uncommon size. Since the U.S.A. standard 3/8 pilot bit will not fit without the chore of drilling out the center hole, and the next size smaller is going to be a very wobbly fit, this tool is not ready to go to work unless you modify it or search for special size pilot bits. This is an adapter that allows use of masonry core bits that have a threadeded female to be used with drills that use a standard Jacobs chuck. It is very heavy duty, and allows an additional non-core masonry bit to be attached via the set screw. The non-core masonry bit feature makes it much easier to start the hole at the desired location (the core bit by itself will "walk"). My only negative observation is that the core bit was loose as I screwed it onto the adapter until the bit "bottomed" on the adapter. Since I only had one core bit, I couldn't tell if the adapter threads were under-sized, the core bit threads were over-sized, a little of each, or if this was the intended design (to allow dirty tools to be assembled without cleaning the threads). In any case, with the core bit fully threaded onto the adapter the connection was secure, and worked fine. There was a little wobble because of a slight misalignment between the core bit axis of rotation and the adapter axis, but it did not cause noticeable problems when drilling. Sorry if this description is a little long -- I'm an engineer, and interested in the details when I read the reviews of others. (Posted on July 13, 2012)
